Tony grew up in a small town where hard work and perseverance were core values.

He pursued civil engineering, which led him to start his own construction company.

Over the years, he built a business that prides itself on quality and reliability.

However, the demands of running the business have taken a toll on his personal life and health, and the company’s slim profit margins have become a growing concern.
One afternoon, Tony received a call from his daughter, asking if he’ll be able to attend her school play. As he glances at his packed schedule, a wave of guilt washes over him.

Later that day, he sat down with his financial advisor who points out that despite the company’s steady turnover, the profit margins are alarmingly low. This conversation lingers in Tony’s mind, pushing him to reconsider his approach to work and profitability.

“I’ve poured my heart and soul into this business, but at what cost,?’ thought Tony. “I’m missing out on my family, and these profit margins are unsustainable. Something has to change, but how do I find the balance between running a successful business and having a life outside of work? I need to figure this out, not just for me, but for everyone relying on me.”That night Tony sat down with a piece of paper and pen and nutted out what he wanted to achieve from his business.

In the left hand column he wrote:Goals:
• Achieve a profit margin of 10-12%.
• Reduce time spent in the office and increase personal and family time. *
• Streamline operations to reduce overhead and improve project timelines.
• Build a self-sufficient team that operates efficiently with minimal supervision.
• Get a Coach to help me.

In the right hand column, he wrote down the challenges he was facing, that he had to overcome.
Challenges:
* Overcoming the struggle to move profit margins beyond 1-2%.
* Managing time effectively to allow for a better work-life balance.
* Addressing inefficiencies in project management and resource allocation.
*Reducing high operational costs.
* Dealing with high employee turnover and ensuring team engagement.
* Where do I find a Coach to help me?

Looking at both columns, Tony came to a decision…. “I’ve built this company from the ground up, and while I’m proud of what we’ve achieved, it’s time to find a balance. I want to increase our profits and ensure we all have time to enjoy the fruits of our labour.”

“I think it’s time to find someone who can help me grow this business. Someone who can mentor and coach me and guide me. Someone who is emotionally detached from the outcome of my business and will help be drive profitability and give me the time back so I can attend my daughters school events.”

The path to success may be challenging, but with perseverance, innovation, and effective teamwork, it can also be deeply rewarding.
