Having seen athletes progress through to the world stage, and of course many more falling short and not meeting the performance standards, I thought I would look at Andy Murray’s journey as a case study to learn from…
And specifically reflect on two pertinent lessons I have taken from Andy’s success…, and why he has utilised the serviced of coaches, yet we in business don’t.
- World class decision making at a young age!
Character traits required:
Courage, bravery, risk taking, self-belief, desire to win, and daring to lose! At a very young age Andy took control of his environment.
He decided to learn from the best, and put himself in an environment where he would have a chance… SPAIN!
Move from the UK, away from his family, and access some world class coaching. He continued to make these decisions throughout his career… moving from training locations and changing coaches as appropriate… but always changes for the best.
- Kaizen!
Character traits required:
Open to critique, prepared to analyse, not take things too personally, commit to lifelong learning, listen to key people.
Andy’s demonstration of this, is incredible… and is an inspiration. What a resilient warrior Andy Murray is! Getting over setback after setback, overcoming adversity, defying what everyone else thought was impossible… and simply getting better, one small step at a time.
Andy Murray is a true success story of the journey from Workhorse to absolute Superstar! His personal demonstration of hard work, dedication, commitment and sacrifice again inspires.
So where is the link for us? Obvious… it is in our decision making, using a person outside of our personal lives and business to help us, and implementing Kaizen.
From a Kaizen perspective, I cannot personally think of a better way of self-development both for myself and my clients. We teach the fastest way to improve results is improve our environment, so out of congruency we must live that and also reap the rewards. 🙂
