20. 90 day plan and the Ideal Employee, the 70:10:10:10 Rule,

Morning light filtered through the windows as Tony, Jayne, and Steve settled into their weekly strategy session. The scent of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the tempting aroma of chocolate biscuits. Steve grinned.

“Morning, Tony and Jayne,” he said with a twinkle in his eye. “Feel like a chocolate biscuit? It’s 10:30 after all, and I hope the coffee’s on, Tony.”

Tony chuckled, got up, and returned moments later with three steaming mugs and a plate for the chocolate biscuits. “Here we go,” he said, smiling.

Steve leaned forward, a spark of enthusiasm in his voice. “Right, let’s dig in. First, we’ll review the 90-day plan and the 70:10:10:10 rule I gave you.

Then, we’ll tackle the KPIs for your ideal client.”

Tony nodded eagerly. “Sounds good—and can we also discuss a recruitment strategy for our sales employee?”

Steve raised a hand, his expression calm but firm. “Not so fast, Tony. I know you’re eager, and that’s great. But before diving into recruitment, we need to ensure your systems and processes are solid. That way, when the time comes to hire, it’ll be seamless—no chaos, no do-overs.”

The group got to work, reviewing the progress on the 90-day plan. Each task completed was a step closer to a more streamlined business, and Steve’s approving nods reassured Tony and Jayne they were on the right track.

KPIs: Building the Foundation
Steve pulled out the KPI sheet, his tone encouraging as he said, “Let’s look at what you’ve set up for your Admin Assistant and Site Manager. These are solid, actionable goals.”

Admin Assistant KPIs

  • Answer all phone calls within three rings using the approved phone script.
  • Keep all stationery items stocked and ready.
  • Acknowledge anyone entering the reception area within 10 seconds using the approved greeting.

Site Manager KPIs

  • Conduct daily job reviews from the site and update progress in the job system.
  • Ensure all site staff are inducted with a 90-day induction plan.
  • Adhere to all systems and processes, noting discrepancies within 12 hours.

As they reviewed each KPI, Tony leaned back with a satisfied smile, glancing at Jayne. “We did good, babe,” he said, his pride evident.

Steve wasn’t about to let them get too comfortable. “Now, let’s talk about the 70:10:10:10 rule. How’s that going this week?”

Jayne’s eyes lit up. “It’s been great! We lived on 70%, skipped a dinner out, to save 10%, tithed another 10%, and tucked away the final 10% into savings. It feels good—even if it’s just a little bit for now.”

“Well done!” Steve exclaimed. “You’re building fantastic habits. Now, let’s talk homework for this week: it’s time to create your induction plan for new staff.”

Tony frowned slightly, leaning forward. “Shouldn’t we be focusing on recruitment first?”

Steve shook his head, smiling. “No, Tony. Start with the end in mind. Think about what a fully inducted, well-trained team member looks like. What value will they bring to your business? Once you know that, you can recruit the right person to fit the role.”

Tony sighed but nodded. “I just want to get recruiting started.”

Steve laughed, his tone light but pointed. “Trust me, this will save you hours of frustration down the road. No, ‘we hired the wrong person and have to fix it’ syndrome here. And remember, we’ll be doing group interviews. But don’t ask me about those yet—you need to finish the induction plan first.”

Jayne leaned in, curiosity etched on her face. “Come on, Steve, just tell us what a group interview is!”

Steve chuckled, shaking his head. “Nope, not yet! Focus on the induction plan first. Here’s the template—use it to craft something great. We’ll talk about group interviews when the time’s right.”

As the session wrapped up, Tony and Jayne exchanged determined smiles. They could see the bigger picture coming together—a structured, thriving business built step by step. And while there was still work ahead, they left the meeting inspired and ready to tackle the next phase of their journey.

This is what success looks like: progress, persistence, and a clear path forward.
