Moral Courage is a value that is lacking in many Leaders.
What is Moral Courage?
In this excellent article by Matthew Syed, he says, it is, ‘the willingness to encompass personal risk on behalf of a bigger ideal.’ This is not what is being displayed by Putin, the Russian leader.

Talk is always cheap. Leaders who ‘do’ by ACTION’s are more valued than someone who waves a flag, exclaiming patriotism.

Churchill, Anthony Eden, and Harold Macmillan all were British Prime Ministers but all were wounded in battle in a cause they believed in. They all faced danger and stood up to fight, knowing the consequences of their actions. As Prime Ministers and leaders of Britain, they took the values they believed in, from the battlefield and to their civilian positions.
As Matthew Syed goes on to say, ‘People who take risks on behalf of the public good, are not likely to betray it on attaining power.’ Most importantly, ‘Courage is the only virtue you cannot fake.’
Unfortunately our current Leaders show no real courage, or won’t take personal risks for the good of the public. There is a moral fracture between our current leaders and the people they profess to serve.
And when is comes to the Russian leader, Putin, and how he has instigated the death of Alexi Navalny, he displays none of the traits of true leadership, but more of a despot, who will hold onto power by every means possible.
Navalny went back to Russia, possibly knowing full well he would be imprisoned for his beliefs. Putin, would not allow him to undermine his perceived authority and represent the other side of democracy. True Leadership emboldens and raises people to greater heights. This didn’t happen in Putin’s case. He will never allow this to happen, because he is a narcissist and will hold on to power, regardless of what it does to the Russian people, or Russia as a country..
Autocracy to push people down. As we have seen throughout history, people will rise up against a despot, and overthrow them.
I wonder how long Putin’s reign will continue.
